Amida without a minyan?
- Does a congregation say the Amida during Shabbat services on Friday night if there is not a minyan?
Animal sacrifice, Rosh Chodesh vs. Shabbat.
- Why are the Jewish people commanded to sacrifice so many more animals and offerings on Rosh Chodesh than on Shabbat? I thought Shabbat was considered to be the most important day. I am giving my Bat Mitzvah d'var on Rosh Chodesh and this is a question I have.

Can I cook on a festival to prepare for Shabbat?
- In the past, when the second day of a holiday comes on a Sunday, I would just serve a cold meal, but this year I am having the visiting cantor, so I would like it to be more special. For Shabbat, Rosh Hashana, I will be making a cholent in my crock pot, and I now I can prepare food for the 2nd day if I put aside challah and an egg and say the prayer on Friday, but what about cooking/reheating? I have a gas stove with an electronic ignition. Does this mean I can use the top burners if I light them from an existing flame? What about the oven? Does this mean I can only reheat a stew on top of the stove? Do you have any suggestions of what I can serve for 2nd day RH? I believe that our visiting cantor is orthodox, although we are a conservative shul.

Fast of Tamuz and other Fast days
- I know yesterday was the Fast of Tamuz. I also know this fast begins a mourning period that ends with Tisha B'Av. I don't, however, know why the 17th of Tamuz is a fast day or even whether it is a full or partial fast. Can't find the answer in any of my source books.Actually, I'd like to know all the fast days.

- I am confused about Shavuot. Is it the giving of the Torah or the 10 commandments to Moses or both. Is it that the Commandments are contained in the Torah? How did Moses receive the torah if the Torah contains the stories of Moses including his receiveing of the commandments and his death? Did he just recieve the laws only?

- I am interested in any and all information concerning Hoshana Raba. I have been in Jerusalem during Succot for the past four years and will be there in 1997. I know there are people who celebrate this at the Western Wall, but I have not found much explanation concerning Hoshana Raba....Can you help?
